If you’re the type of person who likes their case to be unique, a Live Case is pretty much the only way to go. You can print your own photo, get a map of any location, or have a piece of artwork printed on the back. The cases these prints are attached to aren’t bad, but they’re certainly not the best. Spend the extra $10 for the $50 dual-layer model if you’re getting one of these, as the slim version is just a slippery piece of plastic that will probably shatter as soon as it’s dropped.

The Lexan arrives as tiny beads, shipped in big containers, much like the photos in the MXL Industries story. The Lexan is fed into the helmet shell molding machines, where it is melted and pumped into a helmet shell mold.

If it were my money, I don’t think I’d buy a MagCase. Sure, the material is cool and the integrated magnet is handy, but $48 is an awful lot of money for a case that wouldn’t really protect my phone in a drop. On top of that, the magnetic car mount is an additional $10 from PITAKA for a $58 total, and that might not even fit in your car. In contrast, the Thin Fit and a set of magnetic mounts would barely cost $20. If you really like the material, I wouldn’t blame you for wanting a MagCase, but it’s not a practical buy. And for what it’s worth, the Pixel 2 XL size doesn’t seem to be in stock right now.

Since Windows often requires more precision than a finger tap can provide, Xplore also offers a versions of the L10 with an active Wacom pen. Wacom pen technology is very mature and is very widely supported on Windows systems. The pens do not require a battery. Of the two pens shown below, the short one (3.5 inch) comes with the standard tablet version of the L10, the long one (5.5 inch) with the hard handle version. Each form factor provides a pen garage for storage, and also a tether.

Ive places the new watch in a history of milestone Apple products that were made possible by novel input devices: Mac and mouse; iPod and click wheel; iPhone and multitouch. A ridged knob on the watch’s right side—the Digital Crown—took its form, and its name, from traditional watchmaking. The watch was always expected to include a new technology that had long been in development at Apple: a touchscreen that sensed how hard a finger was pressing it. (A press and a tap could then have different meanings, like a click and a double-click.) But the Digital Crown, a device for zooming that compensated for the difficulty of pinching or spreading fingers on a tiny screen, was ordered up by the studio. In a reverse of “skinning,” Ive asked Apple’s engineers to make it. In time, the crown’s role grew to include scrolling through lists. Ive was delighted with its versatility, but the sight of one of his colleagues scrolling with a rigid finger—a Doughboy poke—made me wonder if a more natural watch-winding gesture will cause large thumbs to flop, accidentally, onto the touchscreen.
