Ive’s dominance wasn’t immediate. Michael Ive recalled a conversation he had with his son in 2001: “ ‘It’ll have a thousand songs, Dad.’ I said, ‘Who wants a thousand songs?’ He said, ‘You’ll see.’ ” Tony Fadell, a former Apple engineer who can take much of the credit for the iPod’s functionality, was recently quoted by Fast Company as saying, “We gave it to Jony to skin it.” That is, Ive’s contribution was to combine, as elegantly as possible, elements decided largely by engineers and others: a battery, a disk drive, an L.C.D. screen, a track wheel. Fadell went on to found Nest, which was later bought by Google; he recently took charge of Google Glass. His phrase may have been strategically irreverent—“We’ve never skinned anything,” Tim Cook told me in response—but it contained at least a partial truth. Ive gave the music player an irresistible white-and-silver form, causing a generation of designers to endure clients asking for the “iPod version” of this or that. (Richard Seymour, in London, recalled a meeting about the iPod of moisturizers.) But the industrial-design studio was not yet the company’s central workshop.
Students filled the bleachers in Port Washington High Schoolâs new arena-style gym Monday for an assembly celebrating the opening of the gym, commons, upper and lower cafeterias, offices and performing arts center, which were essentially completed earlier this month as part of a $46.5 million high school project. The public is invited to a 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, open house followed by a 7 p.m. holiday band concert in the performing arts center (right), which has new seats, acoustic ceiling and wall panels and sound and lighting systems. All things considered, the Fabric Case has probably been on my Pixel 2 XL the most of any of the cases I’ve reviewed. It’s also caught the most eyes of any case I’ve ever owned. It’s available from the Google Store for both the 2 and 2 XL in Carbon, Cement, Midnight (pictured), and Coral for $40.

When Meyers first visited the space in 2016, a punching bag sat in the corner, PVC piping lay upstairs, and random pieces of lumber were scattered about the floors. Old, burnt-red barn doors marked the front of the space and opened out to the street. Above them, the second story facade had seen one too many layers of paint. The latest color was a sickeningly bright turquoise.
We’re almost done on our tour of the Nolan helmet factory. Once the helmets are painted and the clear coat has been applied, they pass various stations to have the face shields, internal visors and other parts installed.
“I went with poplar on the parts that are going to have the most human contact (legs, top and outside skirt, because pine is so dang soft”–that’s a good thought, but depending on the pine species, poplar isn’t necessarily harder (http://tinytimbers.com/janka.htm).
“I’m shy,” Ive said. His London accent is intact after more than twenty years away. “I’m always focussed on the actual work, and I think that’s a much more succinct way to describe what you care about than any speech I could ever make.” He sounded calm, but he was fidgeting with his hands, as if trying to flick gum from his fingertips.
In addition to spatially ordering the escaping vapor and returning liquid flows, the epoxy divisions promote the coalescence-induced departure of laterally merging bubbles. Figure 4a shows the coalescence of two ~2 mm bubbles bridging over an epoxy division. As the two bubbles merge the underlying epoxy division between them remains wetted at all times. A thin liquid layer remains on the cold epoxy surface and the non-wetted base areas below each bubble do not merge, collapse, or otherwise move during the entire process. The resulting bubble deforms due to surface tension and is quickly ejected from the surface. The low temperature epoxy inhibits the inward lateral merging of the non-wetted bases, and helps draw replenishing liquid underneath the bubble thus promoting departure. Conversely, Fig. 4b shows time lapse imaging during pool boiling on bare copper surfaces at a comparable heat flux, where three distinct lateral coalescence events are visible. During the 36 ms movie several bubbles are seen coalescing laterally, and in each event the non-wetted base areas merge inward and the resulting bubbles do not depart. The result is a new non-wetted base area beneath the larger coalesced bubble that is still attached to the surface. While this high-speed imaging is conducted at relatively low heat fluxes, it does provide insight into the mechanism driving boiling enhancement on bi-conductive surfaces. The behaviors visualized at low fluxes, along with the pool boiling results shown in Fig. 3, can be used to draw conclusions regarding the nature of enhancement across all boiling regimes up to CHF.
I used a Roll20 on a laptop to control the other tokens and automate some of the npc/creature rolls (saves, attacks etc) which is really easy to do if you have them prepared (Taking20 on YouTube has some great tips on making a Roll20 monster manual you can just drag-n-drop on to a map).
As the group discusses anything and everything, strangers walk past, doing double-takes at the bus that the group has called its football home this Sunday.
If you have the patience to install a skin, go for it. In a sea of black and white smartphones, it’s nice to have the option of an orange, faux wood, or purple one. Or maybe you’re just in the same boat as me, wanting to transform your black Pixel 2 into a panda version. For less than $20, you’ll be able to give your phone a whole new look.
