The split, sliding front center armrest allows row-one occupants to individually adjust each half of the armrest to their liking, and concealed underneath it is a cubby with a cupholder and additional storage space. Another cupholder is located under a flush-fitting cover next to the rotary transmission controller.

The most striking characteristic of the MagCase is its material, aramid. Kevlar is based on this stuff, so it’s definitely pretty strong. That being said, the case is still very thin and doesn’t offer a lot of coverage, leading me to worry about how it’d fare in a drop. The lip doesn’t even extend past the display. The case has a nice soft-touch finish and it’s pretty lightweight, though it is somewhat of a fingerprint magnet.

The air suspension’s ride height drops by 0.4-in (10mm) when cruising at speeds above 65mph (105km/h)5 to reduce aerodynamic drag and assist with fuel efficiency. The Auto Access Height function automatically lowers the suspension by 1.6-in (40mm) when the ignition is turned off, making it easier to get in and out of the vehicle.

But until now the project was missing its cornerstone where the 200-foot-high, 22,000-square-foot tower, or Torre, was meant to rise. Delays in construction stretched three years. They ended up allowing time to refine the design.

The guts of the Pocophone may match any flagship you could throw at it, but its external design is quite another matter altogether. Even compared to the cheaper $220 Nokia 6.1 Plus I was using prior, the approximately $300 Pocophone feels far less premium and smooth. That’s largely because Pocophone had one singular goal in mind when crafting this device, which it has executed to near perfection: create the fastest phone possible, for the cheapest price possible.

Typically, Robert Brunner explained, design had been “a vertical stripe in the chain of events” in a product’s delivery; at Apple, it became “a long horizontal stripe, where design is part of every conversation.” This cleared a path for other designers. In 2007, Brunner formed his own consultancy, Ammunition, and began working with Beats, a new headphone company founded by Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. Brunner’s firm was integrated into the Beats process to a degree that was made possible, he said, by Apple’s example.
