I also just wasn’t a fan of not having any real protection on my $900 phone. Sure, the Toast cover is thicker and more protective than a vinyl skin, but still significantly less so than an actual case. While a vinyl skin can still somewhat fit underneath a case as long as it’s not too tight, the same can’t be said for this wood skin. Since I had more cases to review, I had to take the Toast cover off.

Shruti Jaipuria of the Bangalore-based Maia Design Studio helmed the interiors of Toast & Tonic, has devised a striking feature for the walls and roof with the chipboard finish that stretches all through the ceiling and pillars of the restaurant. The eye takes in the marble floors inlaid with brass and wall surfaces treated with peanut shells to create texture–there’s synchronicity and symmetry in the visual palette, which continues with the furniture and seating (tan frames and buff upholstery for that chic touch).

The Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) system equipped on the Velar has been developed for exceptional driver feedback, precision and feel. Optimized friction and inertia compensation algorithms ensure completely intuitive steering responses, and an active return system promotes a natural self-centering effect as the steering returns to the straight-ahead position. The variable-ratio system also ensures that the driver benefits from greater responsiveness the more they turn the wheel.

Inside, the Velar has a cabin that’s has stylish as the exterior. A pair of 10-inch stacked displays dominates the front occupants’ view. The one of top is for navigation, media and phone duties. The lower one shows the climate control and Terrain Response functions. Folks sit in comfy looking seats, and Land Rover is offering an interesting option there. In addition to the usual leather choices, customers can order Dapple Grey woolen upholstery as a sustainable alternative.

The clear back – or more accurately, the clear layer – is surrounded by a plastic frame. This is made out of soft-touch plastic, which actually feels awesome in the hand. It’s a shame that this is ruined by two more instances of branding (kind of excessive), as well as another set of horrible buttons like we saw on the Atomic. These aren’t as bad since they don’t jab you, but they’re still much harder to press than they should be. The power button in particular takes a metric buttload of force to push down. I don’t know how anyone could green-light them.
